But I always thought I wanted to do it at the macroeconomic level rather than the community level.Īs an undergraduate, I studied politics and economics, and I was focused on economic development-in Africa in particular. I always knew I wanted to be in public service. My dad is a doctor in a rural part of the state who has also worked in tropical medicine. My mother ran a nonprofit for her whole career most recently, before retirement, she was the director of Meals on Wheels in San Antonio.
